A New Beginning...

So I'm attempting to get another blog started - this time, for my first year at university as a Bachelor of Music undergrad! I'll be at the University of Manitoba... a good distance from my hometown, Boyle, Alberta, but definitely not as far as Sendai City, Japan. Nervousness is starting to set in, especially now that I'm doing a scholarship course from the 18th to the 25th in the city. I hadn't known I was going until the beginning of this week and therefore hadn't begun the arduous and time-consuming packing for uni. Now I'm kind of scrambling to get everything organized and sorted, which is quite the task for a scatterbrain like myself... haha. I'm leaving tomorrow morning, returning the night of the 25th, spending the 26th with the fam and packing, then leaving for Manitoba the next day. Once we get there, there'll be an orientation for both myself and my parents and time to set up my room. Then I have auditions for the Opera Workshop and the University Singers on the 2nd and 3rd; I'm really hoping I get into the University Singers ensemble... however, it's the director's decision who goes where... eep!
Classes officially begin on the 3rd; I hope all goes well and that I manage to find my way around!! Wish me luck!!

I most certainly did read your other blog! It was pretty neat- I liked reading about all of your experiences. You write very energetically. I am planning on applying for Japan through Rotary, but it's soooooo confusing! Nobody goes to Japan from NC, so my district has NO info. So it's a slow process. If it's not too much trouble, do you think I could ask you some stuff about your exchange? It's just I think I could get the best info from someone who's actually been.

Awesome!!! Thank you sososososososo much!! The first thing is just about the language- how did you learn it? Can you speak it fluently now? And also, how long did the application process take? I know there's the first bit (which I'm doing now) and an interview, but is there more? Again, thankthankthankthankthankyou!

The language is definitely one of my more prevalent worries. I've got a meager grip on Japanese (I can get the jest of some situations), but I'm scared that it'll be halfway through the year and I'll still be hearing, "Xhidsflbj? Jujinsjbf!" But that four month thing is nice to know:) I started the app process a little while ago because the first bit is due in November. Just doc forms and whatnot. The "host family letter" still has to be done...
So here's a question: I play violin. I have no clue how I'll be able to keep it up while abroad. Any ideas? And I'm also wondering how your credits transfered- my school is sorta iffy about credits. They don't know what can transfer or not, so I'm taking some extra classes as a "safety net", as my guidance counselor calls it. Was your Japanese school good?

And, as always: thanksthanksthanks!!!!

Hey- I know it's been a long time, but I'm giving you an update anyways. My application is due pretty much this week, and I am soooo nervous. I won't find out until December, but I will definitely let you know if I made Japan!
